Shelter heroes are part of a roster of American Red Cross volunteers in your community who are trained and prepared to help their neighbors when a major catastrophe strikes. Natural disasters like hurricanes and wildfires are occurring more frequently with greater intensity. Your community needs compassionate people like you to meet that growing challenge.
Expectations
- Available at least once a year for 3 consecutive days to volunteer to help others in your community after a major disaster like a hurricane.*
- Participate in training for roles to help people with emergency sheltering, meal delivery and other essentials before, during and after a disaster.
- A personal drive to make your community stronger and safer for everyone in need.

- The Red Cross provides in-person and virtual training for various disaster relief roles as a shelter volunteer.
- Various connections to other Red Cross preparedness resources and lifesaving training
- Help your community engage in its ability to prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies
