APRN/PA - Part-Time
Summary/Objectives: |
The APRN or PA provides clinical care as an advanced practice provider under the general supervision of the Medical Director and within a team model of care. . Barnabas’ APRN or PA delivers a broad range of medical services and practices primary care to underserved adults. APRN or PA conducts physical exams, diagnoses and treats illnesses, orders and interprets tests, counsels on preventive health, performs minor procedures, and prescribes medications, under the scope of practice allowed by Professional Board and the appropriate Florida statutes and federal regulations. The Medical Director serves as the supervising physician and is available for consultation and referrals. |
Essential Functions: |
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions. The APRN/PA: 1. Provides quality patient care at Barnabas through the treatment and prevention of disease. 2. Assesses patient health by interviewing patients, taking medical histories, performing physical examinations, obtaining and reviewing past medical histories. 3. Diagnoses and treats patient through comprehensive care with assistance of Medical Director and in collaboration with other health professionals, including prescribing medication, ordering laboratory, diagnostic tests, and making referrals as appropriate. 4. Reviews and interprets lab results and diagnostic testing for Barnabas patients and provides clear direction to MA’s to provide continuity of care. 5. Documents patient care and progress maximizing use of EMR. 6. Performs therapeutic procedures including but not limited to administering injections and immunizations, suturing, managing wounds and infections, and biopsies. 7. Instructs and counsels patients by describing therapeutic regimens, promoting wellness and health maintenance. 8. Uses existing guidelines and/or with the input of the Medical Director refers or seeks consultation with appropriate specialists as needed. 9. Provides counseling and education to patients on chronic disease management. 10. Contributes to Barnabas’ outreach programs to educate people on disease management and healthy living. 11. Works with the Health Services Manager and medical staff providing input in the development and implementation of policies and procedures that reflect the high standards of care set forth by Barnabas’ President & CEO. 12. Implements existing protocols and safety procedures to prevent exposure to blood borne pathogens during patient care. 13. Assists with training and development of clinical care support staff and volunteers, including but not limited to RN’s, MA’s, and Care Coordinators. 14. Regularly reviews the accuracy and thoroughness of triage documentation created by MA’s and RN’s. 15. Upon completion of five years of clinical experience, facilitates the clinic as a site for undergraduate nursing students to complete rotations in health promotion and disease prevention and serves as a preceptor of PA or NP students. 16. Assists with the data collection for medical and health care grant opportunities. 17. Maintains compliance of local, state and federal laws, rules and regulations.

Ability to understand complex medical information and clearly communicate to patients and their families, medical staff, and external customers, in written and spoken format. 6. Possession of conflict resolution and problem-solving skills to effectively manage conflict in the work environment. |

Work Environment: |
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. In the working environment of the clinic there may be potential exposure to communicable diseases, contaminated blood and body fluids and hazardous materials. |

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Repetitive motion of upper body required for extended use of computer. Requires specific vision abilities include vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. |
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: |
This is a part-time position. Days and hours of work are scheduled Monday – Friday. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job demands. |

Occasional travel is expected for this position. |
Required Education and Experience: |
Master’s degree and certification from an American Medical Association approved Physician Assistant Program with two years clinical experience in Primary Care and Chronic Disease management or Master’s degree or Post-Master’s Certificate from an accredited nursing program and national board certification as a Nurse Practitioner (Family or Adult Gerontology preferred) and two years of clinical experience in primary care and chronic disease management. |
Preferred Education and Experience: |
Certification by National Commission on Certification preferred. |
Additional Eligibility Qualifications (licensure, certification): |
Possession of a Florida license to practice and prescribe as Physician Assistant or ARNP. |
