Position Summary

The President serves as the chief executive and strategic leader of the Nassau County Chamber of 

Commerce. The President & CEO is responsible for advancing the Chamber’s mission, vision, and 

strategic priorities while ensuring organizational excellence, financial sustainability, effective governance, 

and measurable impact for the business community.

The President & CEO serves as the primary liaison to the Board of Directors and is the principal 

spokesperson and ambassador for the Chamber, providing leadership to staff, members, and community 

partners.


Core Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership and Organizational Direction

• Lead the development, execution, and ongoing evaluation of a forward-looking strategic plan in 

partnership with the Board of Directors.

• Translate strategic priorities into annual operating plans, budgets, and measurable objectives.

• Monitor economic, business, and community trends to ensure the Chamber remains proactive, 

relevant, and responsive to member needs.

• Ensure alignment of programs, staffing, systems, and resources with organizational goals.


Governance and Board Partnership

• Serve as the primary advisor to the Board of Directors and support the Board in fulfilling its 

governance responsibilities.

• Provide timely, transparent, and accurate reporting on organizational performance, finances, and 

strategic progress.

• Prepare board agendas, materials, and policy recommendations in collaboration with the Board 

Chair. 

• Support board development, engagement, and committee effectiveness.

• Operate within established bylaws and policies, ensuring appropriate distinction between 

governance and management.

• Participate as an ex-officio, non-voting member of the Board and its committees, as applicable.

• Support an annual performance evaluation process tied to strategic and operational objectives.


Financial Stewardship and Operations

• Provide executive leadership for the Chamber’s financial health, sustainability, and long-term 

viability.

• Develop and administer the annual operating budget in collaboration with the Finance 

Committee and Treasurer.

• Monitor financial performance and provide regular financial reporting to the Board.

• Ensure appropriate internal controls, financial policies, and compliance with all legal and 

regulatory requirements.

• Oversee contracts, insurance, audits, tax filings, and financial systems.

• Lead efforts to diversify revenue streams, including membership dues, sponsorships, events, 

programs, and partnerships.

• Provide executive oversight and strategic coordination for affiliated nonprofit entities, including 

the Chamber’s 501(c)(3) foundation, ensuring compliance and alignment with mission.


Staff Leadership and Organizational Culture

• Recruit, develop, supervise, and retain a high-performing professional staff.

• Establish clear expectations, performance standards, and accountability systems.

• Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and results-oriented organizational culture.

• Lead organizational growth by evaluating staffing needs, systems, and processes as the Chamber 

evolves.

• Ensure compliance with employment laws, personnel policies, and best practices.


Membership Growth and Value

• Lead strategies for membership recruitment, retention, and engagement.

• Ensure the Chamber delivers clear, compelling, and measurable value to members.

• Utilize data, feedback, and performance metrics to guide membership strategies and improve the 

member experience.

• Strengthening relationships with existing members while identifying opportunities for growth and 

engagement.


Business Advocacy and Community Leadership

• Serve as the chief advocate for the business community on local and regional issues affecting 

economic vitality.

• Build and maintain strong relationships with elected officials, government agencies, and 

community leaders.

• Collaborate effectively with partner organizations, including economic development entities, Main 

Street organizations, tourism and destination partners, and other regional stakeholders.

• Represent the Chamber’s positions in a professional, nonpartisan, and solutions-oriented manner.


External Relations and Public Engagement

• Serve as the principal spokesperson and public representative of the Chamber.

• Promote the Chamber’s mission, programs, and impact through public speaking, media 

engagement, and community outreach.

• Strengthening the Chamber’s visibility, credibility, and influence throughout Nassau County and 

the surrounding region.


Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree and advanced degree or Certified Chamber Executive (CCE) designation 

preferred.

• Minimum of five years of senior leadership experience in a chamber of commerce, nonprofit 

organization, association, or related field.

• Demonstrated success in strategic planning, financial management, and organizational leadership.

• Strong understanding of nonprofit governance, fiduciary responsibility, and ACCE principles.

• Proven ability to build relationships, lead teams, and represent an organization publicly.


Work Environment

This position requires flexibility beyond standard business hours, including evenings and weekends, as 

well as frequent community engagement, events, and meetings. Occasional travel may be required.
