Take Stock in Children College Success Coach


Take Stock in Children of Nassau County, Inc. is an independent non-profit affiliated with Take Stock in Children®. The program started in Nassau County in 1997 and has been in the state of Florida since 1995.

Our mission is to break the cycle of poverty in this generation through education by providing scholarships to college. With guidance from caring mentors, Florida’s at-risk youth have a chance for success and hope for a better future.

The College Success Coach (CSC) plays an essential role in the success of at-risk students participating in the TSICN program.  The CSC spends the majority of time on-site at the students' Middle and High Schools, meeting with students on a regular basis.  The CSC also meets with mentors and school staff when neeeded to plan programming or problem solve concerns. The position is approximately 20 hours weekly from August 1- approximately June 7.  It also follows the holiday schedule of the Nassau County School District.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Managing Student Performance

College readiness meetings with students according to TSIC state guidelines

Update and maintain student records in HOPEforce database

Coordinate with school liaison(s) regarding student performance

Monitor student performance and behavior

Monitor mentor sessions 

Track mentor participation and communicate to resolve any potential issues

Identify and address any student and/or mentor concerns in a timely manner

Participate in training and events, including program field trips

Distribute/collect documents or forms for required program and event participation

 

Community Interaction

Work with Executive Director and Program Coordinator to facilitate positive reputation of program and its stakeholders. Includes communication with principals, school personnel, mentors, students and parents.

Participate in recruitment and student selection processes to ensure awareness of program to qualified students

Assist in the referral of potential mentors

 

General

Attend staff meetings to plan events, discuss issues, receive updates, etc.

Collaborate with Executive Director and Program Coordinator to identify and establish relationships with individuals and organizations

Follow procedures for monitoring student performance, implementing student success plans and monitoring mentor participation

Participate in continued education opportunities such as annual state conference, webinars, conference calls, etc.

       Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director


QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's degree- preference in education, child psychology, social work or non-profit

Excellent listening and verbal/written communication skills

Experience in working with children

Proficient in MS Office (i.e. Word, Excel and Outlook)

Ability to work as a team and autonomously

Possess expert time management skills



PREFERRED SKILLS

Knowledge in and experience with conflict resolution strategies

Former Take Stock employee, mentor or school employee

Ability to learn new technical skills to manage HOPEforce database and FOCUS accounts

Experience in college application and financial aid processes a plus

Commitment to the development of youth, particularly those in low-income families

Demonstrate ethical behavior as a role-model and observe absolute confidentiality
